Massage for hallux valgus is a simple manipulation method focused on the reflex effect on the cervical and lumbar spine (depending on the severity of the pathology), as well as on the legs and feet to treat and prevent the disease.

Massage for Hallux Valgus is performed carefully without unnecessary physical effort due to the anatomical features of the foot.This can be either a general reinforcement or a direct effect on the deformation zone.
Preparation
Before starting the massage for hallux valgus, you need to make preliminary preparations for the manipulation, which consists of several stages.
For adults, this is:
- Steaming your feet in hot water with an infusion of a herbal blend of sage, pine needle extract, chamomile and oak bark.Medicinal components of plants easily penetrate the heated dermis and have an anti-inflammatory and tonic effect.
- Applying an emollient containing shark oil or laurel oil to the feet and big toe area, which can warm and nourish the deeper layers of the dermis.
For children with anatomical pathology:
- light friction with the palm, then more intense (with the ribs of the palm) cervical spine, lower back;
- warming the skin and muscles of the thighs, legs and feet with gentle circular movements to make them more flexible for the main massage.
After manipulations, massage procedures will be comfortable, painless and more effective.
Technique
Despite the common methods - hitting, rubbing, tapping, pressing, massage for foot valgus in children differs from procedures for adults.
For children, experts recommend starting with the neck and back;for adults, all manipulations are directed to the area around the lump, which is characteristic of the pathology (but not the growth itself), as well as on the legs.
In adults
Hallux valgus massage is performed independently as follows:
- using circular movements of different intensity, the area around the resulting joint is treated;
- the pad of the thumb is heated, small turns of the joint are added to the sides;
- Using strong grasping and pressing motions, each finger joint is felt and carefully pressed.
After that, non-contact massage is performed, you need:
- move your toes up and down;
- make a fan - the toes are separated and joined to the sides;
- hold a small ball with your toes and move it to the side;
- Place your feet on the needle wheel and roll with light pressure.
These exercises relieve inflammation and pain in deformed joints and help strengthen muscles due to increased blood flow.
In children

Massage for children with foot curvature is performed with extreme caution and only in the supine position to avoid additional stress on the musculoskeletal system:
- The child is placed on his stomach so that his legs are below the working surface, and the spine is worked with up-and-down movements, then the sides are held in the direction of the armpits.
- They go down to the sacrum and hips, hit in a circular motion, and also cross to work these zones.
- Using tapping movements from the knees, the back surfaces of the thighs are massaged, after which these areas are thoroughly kneaded with more intensive movements.
- Flat valgus legs and ankles are intensively rubbed in all directions, after which the skin is gently shaken in the area of the legs without squeezing.
- Each finger is intensively massaged in turn, stretching lightly along its entire length.
- Using circular movements from the toes to the heel, draw a figure eight, work the legs.
- The child turns over on his back, a support is placed under his knees, and the exercises are repeated on the front surface of the legs.
Massage for hallux valgus in children is effective with timely and regular treatment when, in addition to flat feet, the heel rolls inward or bends outward.
Contraindications
Massage for plano-valgus deformation has the following contraindications:
- any diseases of the lower extremities during exacerbation;
- general physical disorder associated with systemic diseases;
- malignant neoplasms;
- cardiovascular system problems;
- varicose veins.
Also, people with unstable blood pressure and weak blood vessels should use massage with caution.
Self-massage for hallux valgus can be performed only if the disease is not severe or complicated.
In other cases, these simple and affordable massage techniques will help relieve anxiety, restore muscle tone, normalize blood flow and get rid of the problem as part of a complex treatment.
